Counselor In Training (CIT) Program
Counselor in Training & Future Leaders Programs
Moraga Day Camp is excited to introduce updates to our youth leadership programming for the summer of 2026. To better support skill development and prepare teens for future employment opportunities, our Counselor in Training pathway has been restructured into two distinct levels:
- Future Leaders Program (Ages 12–13)
- Counselors in Training (CIT) Program (Age 14)
This intentional structure allows us to provide age-appropriate training and mentorship while creating a clear leadership pipeline within Moraga Parks & Recreation.
Future Leaders Program (Ages 12–13 by 6/8/2026)
The Future Leaders Program is a hybrid experience that blends elements of a traditional teen camp with curriculum-based leadership development. Participants build foundational skills by learning how camp activities are created, weekly themes are developed, crafts are designed, and day camp programs are planned and delivered. The focus at this level is on creativity, teamwork, confidence-building, and exposure to leadership in a fun, supportive environment.
Counselors in Training (CIT) Program (Age 14 by 6/8/2026)
The CIT Program expands on the skills introduced in the Future Leaders Program by shifting from concept to application. CITs take on increased responsibility and work more directly with campers and staff while learning the expectations of a frontline camp leader. Participants will shadow experienced Recreation Leaders, assist with games, crafts, and activities, and help guide younger campers throughout the day.
Training at the CIT level emphasizes active supervision, professional communication, appropriate decision-making, parent interactions, and the responsibilities that come with working in a childcare setting. CITs are expected to assist with setup and cleanup, act as positive role models, and treat the experience like a job.
With direct supervision from the Camp Director, Recreation Leaders, and Parks & Recreation administration, CITs gain hands-on experience that prepares them for potential future employment with Moraga Parks & Recreation.
