Sona Makker was born and raised in Tracy, California. She was active in local government from a young age, serving as Chair of the Youth Advisory Commission in her hometown. She and her husband Matt spent time in Berkeley and Sunnyvale and ultimately decided to make Moraga their first home together after getting married.
Sona earned a BA in Sociology from UC Berkeley with highest honors, and her Juris Doctorate from Santa Clara University School of Law, with a specialization in technology and internet law.
Sona is a technology policy attorney with deep Silicon Valley experience. She advises on internet governance issues, including privacy and cybersecurity. She counsels on technical projects with a global impact and brings a breadth of leadership and decision-making experience in cross-functional environments.
Sona mentors students and early-stage professionals developing careers in law and public policy. She is an active yogi and has started a women's yoga group in Moraga that she hopes to expand over time. As a newer resident to Town, she is excited to continue getting involved in the community.
