Town Responds to Errors in the Grand Jury Report on Pension Reform

At its meeting on Wednesday, July 11, the Town Council provided input and approved the response to the Grand Jury Report on “City Retirement Plans, An Unsustainable Benefit?” The Grand Jury Report makes inaccurate and misleading statements that do not serve the best interests of the Town. The Town has historically and consistently served the community well in being fiscally prudent. Town employees receive a pension for their employment at the lowest benefit formula of all Contra Costa County municipalities. In addition, the Town provides police services at the lowest cost per resident in Contra Costa as illustrated in the table below.
