Town Of Moraga

Successful Emergency Preparedness Exercise

On October 18, Town staff simulated an emergency response to a regional 7.7 magnitude earthquake by activating the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) at Moraga-Orinda Fire District (MOFD) Station 42. EOC staff was presented with ongoing situational changes throughout the day to challenge response capabilities. Additionally, communications capabilities were tested between the EOCs in Moraga, Orinda and Lafayette. Local schools and neighborhoods also reported their status to the EOC by email, text, phone, and via a radio system manned by the volunteer K6ORI amateur radio group. The successful exercise was observed by three Saint Mary’s College staff, including their Chief of Public Safety, Director of Media Relations and Associate Director of Facilities.
