School Bus Safety

The Moraga Police Department (MPD) has been receiving a number of traffic complaints about speeding in school zones and drivers passing school buses that are displaying flashing red lights. These lights signify that children are getting on or off the bus and there is a danger of a child darting out into traffic. Drivers in both directions are required to stop while the red lights are flashing. If the road has a median or more than one lane in each direction, drivers must stop for a school bus in their direction. Additionally, the vehicle speed limit in school zones is 25 MPH when children are present. Officers, even the Chief, are enforcing these laws and issuing citations to keep our roads safe for drivers and children. Please assist the MPD by driving cautiously and obeying the traffic laws. Please call MPD at 925-888-7055 with any questions or concerns.
