Town Of Moraga

Rheem Boulevard Sinkhole Birthday

The Sinkhole celebrated its one year anniversary on March 13. The community and Town not only shared birthday cake at the Sinkhole site but also shared the frustration of going through the lengthy federal emergency funding process. The Town must still receive approvals from Caltrans who administers the federal funds to bid the $3.3 million repair project; otherwise, the Town will not be reimbursed for the costs. The Sinkhole is evidence of expected future challenges as the Town’s storm drain system continues to age and deteriorate. The adopted Storm Drain Master Plan identifies $26 million of needed storm drain repairs that are currently unfunded, with costs expected to increase if local storm drain funding is not secured.
