Town Of Moraga

Rancho Laguna Park Discussion and Off-leash Hours Continue

On Wednesday, March 28 the Town Council scheduled a second reading of an ordinance that would modify the prohibition of off-leash animals. The ordinance would remove exceptions at Rancho Laguna Park during specified hours of the day and would provide an exception for a Town Council designated fenced and signed dog park of less than 3 acres. After much discussion the second reading was continued to the May 9, 2012 Town Council meeting to allow the community to establish and present a compromise plan to the Town Council. A small lead group of interested people representing all park users are encouraged to cooperatively design a fenced dog park that minimizes environmental impacts on protected species and encourages a variety of uses in the park. Until the Council adopts the second reading of the off-leash ordinance, Ordinance 225, approved by Town Council in 2009, will remain in effect. One of the results of this ordinance was date specific winter and summer hours for off-leash animal use at Rancho Laguna Park. Winter hours end this Saturday, March 31. Evening summer hours begin Sunday, April 1, changing the off-leash start time to 6:00 pm until park closing. Morning summer hours remain the same, park opening to 9:00 am.
