Town Of Moraga

Protect Newly Paved Streets!

The Town has approximately 56 miles of paved streets with an appraised value of $117.5 million, making pavement one of the Town’s most significant assets. Independent studies have confirmed that a newly paved street loses half of its life expectancy after it has been cut, and then deteriorates at a quicker rate. To discourage excavating newly paved streets, an ordinance regulating street excavation and pavement restoration went to Town Council for its first hearing on June 12. The ordinance establishes a pavement cut moratorium to preserve newly paved streets with some exceptions, such as emergencies. The ordinance will be heard by Council on June 26 for adoption.
