Pavement Condition Index Jumps from 49 to 58

The Town’s Pavement Management Program Update Report released this month shows a dramatic increase in the Pavement Condition Index (PCI) from 49 to 58. The significant PCI increase is a direct result from the first of a 3-year intensive pavement repair program funded by voter approved 1-cent sales tax from Measure K. PCI is based on a scale of 0 to 100 with a PCI of 0 representing failed pavement and 100 new pavement and is calculated from a visual survey quantifying seven different pavement conditions rated at three different severity levels. The report and its survey was conducted by a consultant certified by the Metropolitan Transportation Commission and funded by a Pavement Management Technical Assistance Program grant that the Town garnered, and is required for Town eligibility for State grant funding.
