CC Times Endorses Moraga's Fiscal Constraint

A recent Contra Costa Times editorial stated “Moraga shows more fiscal restraint than most California municipalities. While others rushed a decade ago to match overly generous state pension rates, Moraga leaders resisted.” Moraga continues to live within its means. Unaudited figures for FY 2011/12 show estimated retained earnings of a little over $100,000. Retirement benefits are provided through CalPERS but at modest rates participating in the 2% at 50 plan for safety and 2% at 55 for non-safety employees, the “new normal” targeted by other Contra Costa County cities.
