Town Of Moraga

Canyon Road Bridge Pedestrian Access Closed

On Wednesday, February 13, EBMUD brought to the Town’s attention that the existing landslide on their property which damaged the original Canyon Road bridge began to move due to heavy rain saturation. Town staff, bridge, and geotechnical engineers have been evaluating and monitoring the situation and at this time the Town’s engineering experts have determined that the temporary bridge is safe. Experts have also determined that the newly built retaining wall system for the temporary bridge is deflecting the landslide as designed and protecting the temporary bridge. The pedestrian pathway structure that is attached to the existing temporary bridge, however, could be compromised if further landslide movement occurs. The Town is securing excavation services to relieve ground pressure at the landing of the pedestrian pathway structure to prevent damage. As a precautionary measure, pedestrian access is closed.
