Town Of Moraga

Moraga Climate Action Plan (CAP)

On October 22, 2014 the Town Council accepted the Town’s Climate Action Plan (CAP), directing staff to annually review and recommend individual strategies aimed at reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions that could be implemented in the upcoming annual work plan and budget review. The CAP is Moraga’s long-term plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from daily activities of residents and local businesses, and contains strategies related to energy efficiency, land use, transportation, water, wastewater and soil waste management. Staff will work with the Contra Costa County Climate Leaders, a local nonprofit, to identify grant-funding and implementation opportunities for CAP strategies

California Youth Energy Services – Free Home Energy and Water Efficiency Assessments
Town Council authorized the Town to host California Youth Energy Services (CYES), a youth workforce development program that offers energy efficiency services to the community, for the summer of 2015.  The program helps implement Moraga Climate Action Plan Energy Efficiency Strategy EE-R.1 and EE-R.2, as well water conservation. CYES Energy Specialists provided, at no cost to residents, home efficiency assessments, installed energy and water-saving equipment, and provided a personalized report with recommendations for further energy and water savings.  This service, called a Green House Call, GHCs took place July 1 through August 6, 2015. Over the summer CYES conducted Green House Calls at 69 residences in Moraga, which is estimated to save thirteen hundred KWH and 76.50 GPM of energy.  Rising Sun Energy Center presented the results of the 2015 CYES program to Town Council on September 9, 2015 (click here to view presentation).
