Honorable Teresa Onoda, Councilmember

Phil Arth, Councilmember Teresa Onoda was born and raised in Des Moines, Iowa, part of a large Irish-Catholic family. She earned a fine arts degree from Creighton University, where she graduated with honors. Following graduation, she taught art to students in Omaha, Nebraska; Houston, Texas; and Memphis, Tennessee.
Teresa married John Onoda and they had two children, Emily and Nick. While her children were attending school, Teresa developed her career as a professional artist. For many years her work has been featured in art galleries in downtown San Francisco and in Carmel. She has collectors not only in the Bay Area but throughout the United States and has been profiled in major art magazines. Not only has Teresa participated in prestigious art shows but she has also taught workshops and judged art competitions of many different types.
Teresa has been on the steering committee of Preserve LaMorinda Open Space, a group dedicated to protecting the views of ridgelines and open space. She served for two years on the Moraga Planning Commission before running for office and being elected to the town council in 2014. She will serve a four-year term that concludes in 2018.
