Honorable Ken Chew, Mayor

Ken Chew, Councilmember Ken Chew was elected to the Moraga Town Council in November 2006 and re-elected to a second term in November 2010. He served as Mayor in 2010 and 2014.

Ken is a professional civil engineer and project manager in the construction and transportation field. Ken is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin at Madison with a degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering. Ken is a Registered Civil Engineer (P.E.) with a Master’s Certificate in Project Management from the George Washington University. He is also a graduate of the Senior Executives in State and Local Government program at Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government.

Ken represents the Town of Moraga on the Board of Directors of the Central Contra Costa Solid Waste Authority. In keeping with his commitment to maintain and enhance a collaborative relationship between the Town and Saint Mary’s College, Ken continues to serve on the Town's Saint Mary's College Subcommittee. He also serves on the Town’s Audit and Finance Committee.

Ken is the council liaison to the East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) and represents Moraga at the League of California Cities East Bay Division. He was appointed by the Contra Costa County Mayors’ Conference in 2007 to serve on the County Hazardous Materials Commission for four years, and he has served on the statewide Transportation, Communication, and Public Works Policy Committee since 2008.

Prior to his election to the Town Council, Ken was appointed to the Town of Moraga Planning Commission in February 2003, and then reappointed to serve two more terms in February 2004 and February 2006. Ken is an active citizen of both Moraga and the greater community. He has served on the Acalanes Union High School District's (AUHSD) Measure B Citizen's Oversight Committee from 2004 to 2008 and on the Board of Directors of the Child Abuse Prevention Council of Contra Costa (CAPC) from 2004 to 2007.

Ken and his wife, Aly, have enjoyed living in the Town of Moraga since 2001, and they have raised their two sons in what Ken likes to call the best place on earth!
